Councillor Michael Thompson

Greetings from Michael Thompson

Speech by Councillor Michael Thompson at the International Children and Youth Day Festival on May 3rd, 2014 at Nathan Phillips Square

“I want to congratulate the community on this International Children Day Festival. I think it is a great opportunity to bring people together and to focus on children as I think it is important that all cultures in Toronto come together and Turkish community is able to work to have this event here today to invite everyone to celebrate friendship and to ensure that everybody celebrate their own cultural distinction and diversity and at the same time collaborate and work together in order to bring peace and harmony and so and so… I want to congratulate the community. It is really good that everyone from the community is out in order to celebrate and to show the young children that they are the future and the present moment of the adults of the Turkish community are prepared to work hard to ensure that their future is secure within the context of Toronto and the Canadian society because the Turkish community made great contribution. Wwe are looking forward to working ongoing with the community and so on in terms of developing economic opportunity and prosperity and so on.. Who knows, maybe one day Toronto and a city in Turkey like Istanbul can maybe do a trade agreement so we can actually create opportunities for Toronto based businesses and businesses in Istanbul, Turkey. I think that will be great opportunity.”
