Commitment to Privacy
The Turkish Society of Canada (TSC) is committed to protecting the personal information of its members, volunteers, donors, and other stakeholders. In compliance with the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) and applicable Canadian privacy laws, TSC ensures that personal data is collected, used, stored, and shared responsibly and securely.
By joining TSC, members acknowledge their understanding and acceptance of these
privacy practices.
Collection and Use of Personal Information
TSC collects personal information only as necessary for the administration of memberships, event participation, fundraising efforts, community engagement, and communication with members. This information may include, but is not limited to:
- Full name, address, phone number, and email address
- Membership status and history
- Volunteer or donation records
- Event registration and participation details
Personal information will used exclusively for TSC operations, including, but not limited to, communication, program administration, membership applications, and community engagement initiatives. TSC will not collect personal information beyond what is required for legitimate organizational purposes and will always obtain consent before using it for nonregular TSC operations.
Consent and Member Rights
By submitting a membership application, registering for events, or engaging with TSC
activities, individuals consent to the collection, use, and retention of their personal
information as outlined in this policy. Members have the right to:
- Request access to their personal information held by TSC;
- Correct or update inaccurate or outdated information;
- Withdraw consent and request the deletion of their personal data, subject to legal and administrative requirements;
- Requests regarding personal information can be submitted to the TSC Privacy Officer (privacy-at-turkishcanada[dot]org), who will address inquiries in a timely manner.
Protection and Retention of Personal Information
TSC implements appropriate security measures to protect personal data from unauthorized access, disclosure, or misuse. These measures include encryption, secure storage systems, and access controls. Personal information will only be retained for as long as necessary to fulfill the purposes for which it was collected, after which it will be securely destroyed.
Sharing and Disclosure of Personal Information
TSC does not sell, rent, or share personal information with third parties without explicit
member consent. TSC may be required to disclose personal information of members in the following circumstances:
- When required by law or regulatory authorities
- When required by governmental service organisations
- To comply with court orders, legal investigations, or government requests
- With service providers who assist TSC in administrative functions, provided they adhere to strict confidentiality agreements
- Any third-party sharing of personal information will be conducted with transparency and in accordance with PIPEDA regulations.
Changes to the Privacy Policy
TSC reserves the right to update this privacy policy as necessary to reflect changes in legal requirements or organizational practices. Any updates will be communicated to members through official channels.
